Which creatine is actually third-party tested?
Some are, but the label alone doesn't tell you. Of 135 creatine products on Amazon, 46 have a public record that proves the creatine amount. 1 more is NSF-listed, but an independent test found less than 90% of the label. 13 have testing for banned substances only. 54 claim testing, and we found no record of it. The other 21 make no testing claim or use a different kind of test.*1, 4, 8
To buy one, we recommend BulkSupplements creatine. It has a lab test and NSF Certified for Sport, for about $4.26 a month.
Photos: real product photos from Amazon listings, Oct 21, 2026. Not a test.
Our pick for third-party tested creatine
BulkSupplements Creatine Monohydrate Powder
| Lab test | 99% of label (SuppCo, June 2025)*15 |
|---|---|
| Certification | NSF Certified for Sport (1 kg size)*5 |
| Cost | $0.14 per 5 g (about $4.26 a month, 30 doses)*1 |
How we pick. The same rule as our best creatine page. The product needs a published independent lab test and an NSF Certified for Sport listing for the size on sale. Then we take the lowest cost per real 5 g. Of the 135 products, only 1 brand passes both: BulkSupplements.*4, 15, 19
Why not Thorne? It is the NSF creatine that review sites name most, but we found no public lab test of it. It costs about 3 times as much, at $0.47 per 5 g.*1, 4
Why not Sports Research? It also has a lab test and NSF listings. But NSF lists a 450 g bag, and Amazon sells 300 g, 500 g and 1 kg bags, so no size on sale is on the listing.*4, 15
What we didn't verify. We didn't test any creatine ourselves. SuppCo didn't name its lab or the batch it tested, and NSF lists only some lots. We can't confirm that the bag you get is one of them.*5, 15
46 of 135 creatine products we checked prove their dose
Of those 46, 36 have an NSF Certified for Sport listing, 4 have a public lab test, and 6 have NSF's contents certification. That one checks the label amount but is not the Sport mark, and it doesn't test for banned substances. 1 more product (Create) is NSF-listed, but an independent test found less than 90% of the label, so we don't count it as proof. Of the 36 NSF-listed products, 14 are sold in a size NSF doesn't list or one we couldn't check.*2, 6, 13, 15

This is our Fine Print Ledger. We searched 297 NSF Certified for Sport listings, 96 Informed Sport and Informed Choice listings, BSCG, USP Verified, Clean Label Project and public lab tests. We didn't run any tests. A claim with no record means we found nothing in those places. It doesn't mean the claim is false.*4, 8, 10–12
What does each "tested" mark actually check?
Only some marks check that the creatine amount matches the label. Others only screen for banned drugs. Here is what each program says about itself.

- a Force Factor's gummies are NSF-listed. We found no record for its powder, which says "third-party tested for purity and potency" and names no program. A brand's other products can have less proof than the row shows.*1, 4
- b NSF lists Thorne's 450 g and 900 g sizes (90 and 180 servings). The 30- and 60-serving sizes (150 g and 300 g) sold on Amazon are not on the listing.*4
- c Naked's Amazon title says "NSF Certified." It holds NSF's contents certification, not Certified for Sport, and its listing doesn't say which one.*1, 4, 6
- d We matched Optimum Nutrition by brand and form, because Amazon's titles differ from the registry's. The registry lists "Micronized Creatine Powder" and "Creatine."*9
- e The Kaged product we found on Amazon is creatine HCl, a different compound from monohydrate. Informed Sport also lists its monohydrate.*8
- f We read this claim on the brand's own website, not on Amazon. Brand pages can change, and some load part of their text with scripts, so a claim could sit where we didn't see it.
- g NSF lists Vital Proteins Creatine (250 g), but the listing shows no country of sale, so we can't confirm it is sold in the US. Its collagen and creatine blends are listed for the US.*4
32 brands shown, read Oct 21, 2026. "None found" means we found no record in the places we searched. For Informed Sport, our keyword search was incomplete, so we also searched each brand by name. We left out 3 brands people search for (Cellucor, NutraChamps, Qunol) because we found no creatine product from them.*8

Are there NSF-certified creatine gummies?
Yes. Create and Force Factor both sell creatine gummies with NSF Certified for Sport listings. 6 of the 35 gummy products in our sample have one.*1, 4
An NSF listing is not a guarantee, though. 2 of 3 independent lab tests of Create's gummies found less than 90% of the label amount.*20 Force Factor costs less, at $1.00 per real 5 g, against $1.85 for Create at the label amount. See Force Factor gummies on Amazon Lab test + NSF Certified for Sport, or read every gummy lab test.*1, 20
1 more gummy product in our sample holds only NSF's contents certification, not the Sport mark.*6
Is "made in an NSF-registered facility" the same as NSF certified?
No. A factory audit says nothing about whether this product was tested. NSF's GMP program checks the plant's process, and the page we read doesn't say any product from the plant is tested for dose or banned substances.*7
Amazon sellers use the words loosely. One chew listing says it is “manufactured in our wholly owned, NSF GMP-certified US facility.”*1 Across our 135 products, 20 name NSF in the listing text, and we found no NSF listing for the product. 6 products hold only NSF's contents certification, which is not the Sport mark.*1, 4, 6
How to check creatine before you buy
Three checks take about five minutes. They catch most of the gap between a claim and a record.
- Match the size. NSF lists certain package sizes. Thorne's 450 g and 900 g sizes (90 and 180 servings) are listed, and its 30- and 60-serving sizes (150 g and 300 g) are not.*4
- Read what the mark covers. Banned-substance marks don't check the creatine amount, and a factory audit checks neither. Use the table above.
1
2
3
- 1Brand and product. Match both to the tub you are buying, not just the brand.
- 2Lot numbers. NSF lists the lots it tested. Your tub's lot is printed on it.
- 3Package sizes. 1 kg is listed, the size of our pick.
Is creatine on the banned substance list?
No. We searched the full text of the World Anti-Doping Agency's 2026 Prohibited List, 26 pages that took effect on 1 January 2026, and the word creatine does not appear.*18
The risk is contamination. WADA's own FAQ says some banned substances are found in dietary supplements, and gives higenamine and MHA as examples.*17 That is why athletes look for marks like NSF Certified for Sport, which screens for 290 banned substances.*2
Do a brand's own lab reports count?
Not for our count. A brand's own certificate of analysis (COA) comes from a lab the brand chose and paid for. It can still be one more data point.
Three brands in our lookup publish creatine COAs: Momentous, Transparent Labs and Gorilla Mind. The first two also have NSF Certified for Sport listings.*4 Gorilla Mind has only the COA, and we found no registry record. Momentous's COAs for two lots say purity “Conforms” and give no grams of creatine, so they can't be compared with the label.*1 Labdoor is different but not fully independent. It buys products at retail, and it also sells certification to brands. We count 5 Labdoor results and label them brand-paid.*13, 14
Questions people ask
- Is creatine third-party tested?
- Some creatine is. Of 135 creatine products on Amazon, 46 have a public record that proves the creatine amount, and 13 have testing for banned substances only. 1 more is NSF-listed, but an independent test found less than 90% of the label. 54 claim testing, and we found no record.*1, 4, 15
- Is Thorne creatine third-party tested?
- Yes, with a limit. Thorne has NSF Certified for Sport listings for its 450 g and 900 g sizes (90 and 180 servings). The 30- and 60-serving sizes (150 g and 300 g) are not on the listing.*4
- Is Naked creatine NSF certified?
- Only the contents version. Naked is not in NSF's Certified for Sport list, which we searched on Oct 21, 2026. It is on NSF's contents list (NSF/ANSI 173), which checks the label amount but not banned substances.*4, 6
- Is Optimum Nutrition creatine NSF certified?
- We found no NSF listing for it. Optimum Nutrition has Informed Choice, which tests for banned substances. We found no public lab test or NSF listing that checks its creatine dose.*4, 9
- Are NSF-certified creatine gummies available?
- Yes. Create and Force Factor make creatine gummies with NSF Certified for Sport listings. Force Factor costs less per 5 g.*4, 20

Notes and sources
- Fine Print Ledger: we searched Amazon US for "third party tested creatine" and "nsf certified creatine" (pages 1 and 2 of each, October 21, 2026). That gave 135 different products from 100 brands. This is what the first two pages show, not every creatine product, and not proof of organic rank. We opened each product page and matched it to the registries by brand, product name, form and size. No registry shows a barcode, so every match is by name.*1
- One counting rule: each product goes in exactly one group by its strongest record. Proves the dose = an NSF Certified for Sport listing for the product, a published independent lab test of the creatine amount, or NSF's contents certification (NSF/ANSI 173). Banned substances only = Informed Sport or Informed Choice. Another kind of test = a program that checks contaminants or isn't searchable (Clean Label Project, Eurofins Clean Sport). Claim, no record = the listing says tested or certified and no registry has the product. No claim = no testing claim and no record.*4, 8
- Registries searched, all October 21, 2026: NSF Certified for Sport (297 creatine listings), NSF/ANSI 173 contents list (by company name), Informed Sport and Informed Choice (by creatine keyword and by brand), BSCG Certified Drug Free (94 creatine lots, none from a brand in our sample), USP Verified (no creatine) and Clean Label Project (12 creatine products). The Informed sites blocked ordinary web requests, so our Informed search is less complete than the NSF one. "No record" means we didn't find one.*4, 8, 10–12
- Of the 36 NSF-listed products, 5 are sold in a size that isn't on the NSF listing (Thorne's 30- and 60-serving sizes (150 g and 300 g), CleanForm and Sports Research), and 9 had no pack count on Amazon, so we couldn't check the size. We count them as NSF-listed because the product is.*1, 4
- Lab tests: SuppCo bought creatine products off the shelf for its 2025 report and doesn't name its lab. Labdoor sells testing and certification to brands, so a Labdoor result alone doesn't count as proof here; those 5 products are under “another kind of test.” ConsumerLab named 11 creatine products in 2026, but its pass and fail results are for members only, so we don't count them.*13–15
- Cost per 5 g = price ÷ number of 5 g doses, using the lab result (capped at 100%) where one exists. Prices change daily.*1
- We'd change our pick after a failed test, a lost NSF listing, or a cheaper product that passes the same rule. Next check: January 2027. The product photo comes from Amazon.
- Amazon.com search results for "third party tested creatine" and "nsf certified creatine" (pages 1 and 2 of each; 135 products) and each product page, read Oct 21, 2026 Prices change often. Amazon showed no "Sponsored" label on any card we saw, but we can't tell paid from organic placement.
